What a fantastic evening. I was able to get five of my friends from work to join me at this show. And oh what a show. It opened with the Spits. A punk band that seems to be comprised of hobbyists. Good, but not incredibley memorable. In all fairness, their engineer mixed their output rough. Not one note or lyric was discernible. The show did, however, get much better. Following the Spits were the Atomic Bombshells. A troupe of burlesque dancers that had a woman to fill any person’s fantasy. Oh what lovelies they were. Bringing back the classic steps of the Thirties and Forties burlesque dancers. Pure Class and beauty.

Following them, was Elvez as the Doctor of Luv and his nurse, Naughty Nurse Nina. These two put on a Vaulville variety routine amped up for the new millenium. After corny jokes (Dr. Luv: Nurse Nina, I cured Micheal Jackson of his love of little boys. Nurse Nina: How? Dr. Luv: I got him turned onto Twenty-eight year olds. Nows he’s much happier that he has twenty of them.), El Vez sang a song. After which, he introduced our headliner: Dita Von Teese.

This woman epitomises classic sensuality. She performed a fan dance. Classic Sally Rand. Decked out in red. Lit in red. When she looked towards you, a warmth sread from the pit of the stomach outwards. It burns your mind and sets the genitals ablaze. I have been a long time fan of hers, but this is my first live performance. I had fallen through the gates of heaven and found Hell’s angel.

The second band was the Briefs. What I said about engineering was clear when this band took the stage. For punk band the sound was clear. They kicked ass. A mosh pit broke out infront of us. Two of my friends worked their through the pit to the stage front (preparing for the next round of dancers). While another friend and I acted as goalies. We knocked errant moshers back into the pit and helped the fallen back to their feet. The Briefs stirred us up with their craft and energy.After the Atomic Bombshells took the stage again, there was another musical intermission. Then Dita came back on and performed her Martini Glass dance. Pictire a giant martini glass and the most perfect nude body dancing around and in it. After this best of finales, an idiot jumped on stage and drank a glass of the water from the glass. Apparently he wasn’t watching when the stage hand poured a lubricant and rubbed it around the inside of the glass.

For me, it was a stellar evening with friends and some of the classiest and stunningly beautiful women. Oh what wonderful dreams I will have.Dreams that I can relive because I was sneaky bastard that took some great photos of that night.

A week from tonight Dita will be performing at the Showbox. Better yet, it will be a guys night out. Personally, I would go even without the pleasure of anyone’s company. The fantasy would be me and Dita and an empty theater, but hey reality beckons. I will be one of several hundred people in an auditorium. I’ll just have to get decent photos of the whole event. More about this event next Saturday.
